Fabio Manha GarciaFabio is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. In his last year of high school, he started learning about the possibilities of studying in Europe and the United States. After he heard about Kansas City from a friend of his family who was a travel agent, he decided to make it a reality. He began at UMKC taking classes in English as a Second Language, and has come a long way since then. Fabio graduated from Penn Valley College and UMKC with an A.A. He also holds a Bachelor's degree from Park University in business administration, international business and marketing. In 2006, Fabio earned his M.B.A with an international focus, also from Park.

During his time in Kansas City, Fabio has been listed on the Dean's and Presidential lists every year since 2000. He was awarded the "Dow Jones Wall Street Journal Best in Class" award in 2003, and in 2005 was appointed Trustee for People to People International, following his presidency of the Park University People to People Chapter. Most recently, Fabio was a part of Park's Model United Nations team which received an award from the American UN conference in Chicago for Best Representation of Security Council.

He has worked for the Office of International Affairs and Education since 2002, after his study abroad experience in Greece. He began as a work study student, then moved into a graduate assistant position, and finally to a full-time position in 2007. Fabio's responsibility in the office is many fold, and encompasses overseeing and coordinating many programs and activities including Coming to America, Global Future, Model UN, and Study Abroad.

Fabio is a seasoned traveler, and has visited Greece, Italy, Paraguay, Mexico, and Switzerland. He speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian, and is in the process of learning French.

The work he does for the office is important to him because Fabio thinks offering diversity to students, curriculum, and the community is an essential part of growing the way we live and learn.

"I want everyone to have an opportunity to experience international culture," he says. "Even if it's not study abroad. I hope there is something inside people that makes them want to explore different cultures, and learn about them. Anywhere you go, diversity is present. We can't run away from it. We have to accept it, embrace it, and adapt. I want to make that experience a positive instead of a negative."
