Park University’s Campanella Gallery to Host Painting ExhibitThursday, August 7, 2014
A mixed media painting exhibit featuring the work of artist Elisha Bailey will be on display in Park University’s Campanella Gallery, Monday, Aug. 11, through Saturday, Sept. 13. The title of Bailey’s exhibit is “Sensing the Abyss.”
Bailey’s painting combines paint, metal shards and chains with paper and wood. “My interest was to create harmony between diverse materials,” she said. “I am intrigued by old metal and the physicality of weight against the illusionistic painted surface creating a sense of movement, and with that, a feeling of other-worldliness.”
Bailey graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Park University in May. Her most recent exhibit was her senior thesis exhibition of landscape color photographs titled, “The Loudest Silence,” which was displayed in the Campanella Gallery in May.
A reception will be held for Bailey on Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gallery.
The Campanella Gallery is located inside the University’s McAfee Memorial Library, within Park’s Mabee Learning Center/Academic Underground. Admission is free. The Gallery’s regular hours are: 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 4 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday. From Monday, Aug. 11, through Saturday, Aug. 16, the Gallery will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 17.
