For the third year in a row, Park University has received a top ranking for the services and support it offers to active duty military, veterans and their families.
, an independent source for news and information for the military community and its associated newsweeklies, Air Force Times
, Army Times
, Marine Corps Times
and Navy Times
, released its “Best for Vets: Colleges 2015” list on Nov. 10. Park is ranked No. 4 among all private colleges/universities in the country and No. 7 overall in the “online and nontraditional” category (schools that serve military students primarily online or through a network of small campuses). Last year, Park was ranked No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.
The publication gave Park four stars (out of four) for its staff support and 3.5 stars for its academic support. The staff support distinction rates the number of staff members dedicated to veterans issues, the amount of time they spend on veterans and the frequency and scope of military related training for instructors and administrators. The academic support marks rate the type of academic help schools provide, such as tutoring, mentors and learning communities, and considers both what is offered and whether there is a separate version of these types of support for veterans. The ratings also consider withdrawal and re-enrollment policies for deployed service members.
Park students were surveyed based on university culture, student support, academic quality, academic policies and financial aid. Along with tuition assistance and scholarship opportunities, Park offers unique resources for its service members and veteran student population, including the Park Warrior Center
, a division of the University’s Department of Military and Veteran Student Services
. The PWC helps students on such topics as education, employment, finances, relationships, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and transition. In addition to the PWC, Park offers a Success for Veterans
program that provides a smooth and comprehensive transition for veteran students as well as education opportunities for students in the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College
at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., that provides an impressive variety of master’s degree programs and emphases for officers.
