Bachelor of Science - Geography


Those who study geography are well-prepared to understand, explain, and solve issues and problems that occur between places, countries, cultures, regions. Because of the broad applicability of geographic skills and knowledge, geography is a discipline that can lead to a large number of career options in virtually every industry. Due to this wide spectrum of possibilities, the Geography major has been designed to allow students the flexibility to select coursework that best suits their individual interests and career goals.

Students will need to complete at least 30 semester hours through Park University, with 15 hours in their major in order to receive a degree from Park University.

Core Curriculum

A total of 120 credit hours are required for degree completion.  Thirty-four to Forty (34-40) credits are in the major field distributed as follows:

  • GGH110 Cultural Geography - 3 cr.
  • GGH200 Geography of North America - 3 cr.
  • GGP115 Physical Geography - 4 cr.
  • GGP350 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) I - 3 cr.
  • GO125 Natural Disasters - 3 cr.
  • 18-24 hours of electives
    • At least 6 courses designated as GGH, GGP or GO; three courses must be at 300/400 level.

TOTAL: 34-40 Credits

 

Required Minor

Successfully complete the requirements for one of the minors as offered by the university. *Note: Only one course (3 credits) completed for the major requirements may be counted as satisfying part of the minor requirements.  18-24 cr.

Capstone Portfolio

Consisting of an evaluation of the five core assessments from the core curriculum and how they connect with the program competencies.

Liberal Education

Successfully complete the liberal education requirements as described in the university catalog.
