Recyclemania!
Please join Park’s recycling team in participating in Recyclemania 2010. Recyclemania (www.recyclemania.org) is a nationwide competition for colleges and universities to recycle as much as possible during a two month period. This year’s dates are January 17-March 27. This is Park’s second year participating in this event. We need your participation to help Park’s Parkville and downtown campuses make a big impact on the landfill – let’s keep our garbage out! An audit of the trash in the Parkville campus’ dumpsters has revealed that almost 75% of what we are throwing away is recyclable! It is up to each of you to make sure that your recyclable materials don’t end up in the landfill, but are recycled into new reusable products – and help bring in money to pay for new recycling initiatives at Park. Now is the time to try out those new blue recycling bins on your floor, if you haven’t already done so. Please separate the white paper, all other mixed paper, plastic bottles and metal cans from the rest of your garbage and place them in the receptacles provided. You can find the location of recycling bins closest to you here. If you have questions, have a large amount of recycling you need help with or want to request bins for an underserved part of campus, please contact Angie Peterson at apeterson@park.edu or Randy Bailey, Director of Environmental Services at randy.bailey@park.edu. Recyclemania 2010 results: As of March 12, 2010 White paper 2,670.00 pounds 1.34 tons Mixed paper 11,000.00 pounds 5.50 tons Plastic bottles 86.50 pounds 0.04 tons Aluminum/metal cans 43.25 pounds 0.02 tons
