Recycling FiguresThe recycling subcommittee of the President’s Climate Commitment Committee participated in the 2009 Recyclemania competition in the “Benchmark” division. This participation was not to try to recycle as much as possible, but to try to determine levels of interest in recycling. The exercise lasted ten weeks and taught all of us much about the challenges we will face as we begin full-scale recycling in Parkville and downtown. The challenges we faced directly impacted our choice of hauler for our recyclables for our full-scale recycling efforts. The figures below represent the materials recycled during that ten week period. Additionally, our grounds crew is composting some of the food waste from the cafeteria. Again, these numbers are not part of the full-scale recycling project we are working on, but they are still valuable data.
