About Public Safety


The Park University Department of Public Safety is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The Department consists of two divisions: The Patrol Division and the Fire-Emergency Management Division. A Sergeant heads the patrol division and a corporal heads fire-ems,  both divisions are staffed by officers with varying degrees of experience and education.


 

The Department of Public Safety has three types of employees:

  • Full-time Uniformed Officers
  • Student Officers
  • Dispatchers (Full-time and Student)

The Public Safety Officer's duties include:

  • Patrolling the Main campus, Buildings and Commercial Underground areas.
  • Maintaining order on campus and during special events.
  • Enforcement of  University policies (traffic, drug, alcohol).
  • Investigation of Criminal Activities on University premises.
  • Responding to Medical Emergencies*
  • Securing and Unsecuring buildings and doors at scheduled times.
  • Inspection of Fire Extinguishers and Smoke Alarms.**
  • Checking for Safety Hazards.
  • Emergency Management Planning.**

               * Officers are trained in First Aid, CPR and AED usage
            ** Duties are performed by Fire-E.Management Officer

The Public Safety Dispatcher's duties include:

  • Dispatching Public Safety Officers when and where needed.
  • Answering and Monitoring Public Safety Radio transmissions.
  • Monitoring and Alerting Officers of Severe Weather Conditions.
  • Providing Information to Visitors, Staff and Students.
  • Taking calls on the University telephone system.
  • Providing Quality Customer Service to the Public.
