REGISTRATION
Registering your vehicle is important.
In the case of an emergency involving your vehicle, the Park University
Department of Public Safety will use the registration number to locate and
notify you of the emergency.
Because of the importance of vehicle registration the following rules are in
effect:
- All vehicles on campus driven by students, faculty, and staff are to be
registered with the Park University Department of Public Safety.
- Upon registration, you will be issued a Park University sticker that is to
be displayed in the lower left corner of the rear window (motorcycles on the
fender).
- If you drive more than one vehicle to campus on a regular basis, each
vehicle must be registered and will be issued a sticker.
- All vehicles are to be registered with-in the first two weeks of a
semester.
- All vehicles registered or parked on campus must be properly licensed and
insured.
- Unregistered vehicles may be subject to receiving a citation from the city
of Parkville.

TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
Tickets will be issued for the following violations:
Group I
- Unauthorized vehicle in Guest Area
- Overtime Parking
- No Park University Registration
- Other
Group II
- Faculty/Staff Parking
- Blocking Drive
- Blocking Fire Hydrant
- No Parking Zone
- Blocking Loading Docks
- Parking or Operating Vehicle in Unauthorized Area
- Other: parking and/or operating vehicles in unauthorized areas, loading
ramps, vehicle registration violations
Group III
- Fire Lane
- Unauthorized Underground Parking
- Parking on Grass
- Hang Tag Parking
- Moving Violations
- Excessive Violations*
*Excessive violations are considered to be three or more tickets a
semester or more than five a year.
Group IV
- Handicap Space
- Blocking Handicap Ramps
- Other
TOWING
Vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense for the following:
- Blocking a drive or alley way
- Blocking the entrance to a loading dock
- Blocking the entrance to a handicap ramp
- Blocking the entrance to a building
- Restricting the flow of traffic (vehicle or pedestrian)
- Parking in a fire lane or blocking a fire hydrant
- Abandoned or disabled vehicle
- Excessive violations
PARKING
Park University has enough parking to accommodate its students.
Although it may not be the closest space to your destination, there is plenty of
space available. Therefore, there is no excuse for illegal parking.
So remember these rules:
- A legitimate parking space is usually one marked with two white lines or
two blue lines for handicap (Exceptions are the gravel parking lots)
- Parking on sidewalks, fire lanes, or in alleys is prohibited
- Students are NOT allowed to park in the underground
- Students are NOT allowed to park in the East Herr House parking lot
- Students are NOT allowed to park in Synergy Services Parking lot
- You are not allowed to park in spaces that are designated with a sign for
specific use unless it applies to you. Handicap marked spaces and the
Operator's space are in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All other
spaces are in effect Monday-Friday 7am-6:30pm unless designated otherwise.
RESPONSIBILITY
- You are responsible to drive carefully, cautiously following
traffic-parking rules and regulations.
- You are also responsible for all violations committed while your vehicle
is in the custody of another person.
- You are responsible for all parking violations of your guests on campus.
It is your responsibility to inform them where to park, etc. and you will be
charged for traffic violation fines they incur.
- You are responsible for any traffic violation tickets issued to you. If
you plan to appeal a ticket, it is your responsibility to appeal it within
10 calendar days. Failure to do so will result in the charge being placed on your
account.
APPEAL PROCEDURES
If you have received a ticket and you have a legitimate explanation, you may
appeal it. You have 10 calendar days to file an appeal. The
Department of Public Safety is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Appeals can be filed at any time of the day. Appeal forms can be obtained
in the Public Safety office from the dispatcher on duty. An appeal must be
written on an appeal form and fully filled out in order to be considered.
A telephone call will not be sufficient for an appeal. A committee of
Public Safety employees will hear all appeals properly filled. You will be
contacted by e-mail regarding the verdict of your appeal. If you still
disagree with this verdict, you can appeal it to the VP of Business and Finance.
MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS/THEFTS
Please report all motor vehicle accidents and thefts on campus
immediately to the Department of Public Safety.
- Call the Dispatcher in the Public Safety Office office by dialing ext
#6444.
- An officer will take the necessary information, investigate if needed and
fill out the appropriate forms that you can obtain and send to your
insurance company.
PAYMENT OF FINES
Where to pay your fine:
- Payments will be accepted at the Cashier's Office during normal business
hours Monday-Friday.
- The Cashier's Office is located in the lower level of Mackay.
