Student Health

Student Health Services on the Parkville Campus:

A Certified Nurse Practitioner will be available on campus on Wednesdays from September 22 through November 11.  Tosha Clark, RN, CS, FNP will work from the first floor of Dearing Hall from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesdays. (Please note that on October 14, the Clinic is closed 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.) Due to her limited availability, she will be seeing only ill students with problems such as: cough, cold symptoms, sore throat, fever, rashes, allergies, pink eye, ear pain, or urinary symptoms.  Well-woman checks will not be available.

If you are aware of feeling ill on Monday or Tuesday, you can send an e-mail to StudentHealthAppointments@Park.edu and let Ms. Clark know your available times.  If possible - she will write back and confirm your appointment time.   If you are not feeling ill until Wednesday - please walk over to Dearing Hall for a drop-in visit and check her availability.

Students with Bollinger Student Insurance

Students with Bollinger Student Insurance can utilize the healthcare services available at Platte County Health Department – on Highway 9 just north of the Park University softball and soccer fields.  The address is: 1201 East Street, Parkville, MO 64152.  Their services are divided, with different clinics and hours – based on your need.  Please review the information below, then call the appropriate number to schedule an appointment.  When you go – please take your Bollinger Student Insurance Card, plus your Park ID card.

The Primary Care Clinic is open: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Same-day appointments are available for common illnesses, such as respiratory infections, influenza, and lacerations.  For more information on the Platte County Health Department's Primary Care Clinic please call (816) 587-5998 or (816) 858-2412.

In addition, a Women’s Healthcare Clinic is also available at the Parkville office of the Platte County Health Department.  They are open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 am – 3:15 pm. Please call (816) 587-5998 to make an appointment.

A Walk-in Clinic is also available at the Parkville office of Platte County Health Department, Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Please call (816) 587-5998 for more information.  The Walk-in Clinics do not require an appointment. Services are provided by a highly qualified staff of Registered Nurses.  The Walk-in Clinic offers the following services:

  • Blood pressure, blood sugar and hemoglobin screenings,
  • Tuberculosis skin tests,
  • Confidential pregnancy tests,
  • Confidential HIV – AIDS and STD testing,
  • Adult and International Travel Vaccinations, including:

Flu shots, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis*, MMR Meningococcal, Pneumococcal, Tetanus & Diphtheria, Typhoid*, Varicella, Yellow Fever*

*Please call ahead about travel vaccinations so that we can order the appropriate vaccines before you visit our clinics. Also, visit CDC's website to find out exactly which vaccinations are needed for your trip.

Other local options for students with Bollinger Insurance or other private insurance: The Urgency Room and Parkville Family Practice.

Students with private insurance will need to find a provider through their network.  All students are encouraged to carry the Bollinger Student Health Insurance.  Residential Students, Varsity Athletes, International Students with F-1 Status, and Nursing Students are required to purchase Student Insurance unless they provide proof of personal insurance.  Details are available on the Student Assistance Center website.

Students may call the Nurse-Line at St. Luke's Northland Hospital at 816-932-6220 for free nurse advice and physician referral 24 hours a day.

There are five Walgreens' Take Care Clinics in the area.  They do not accept Bollinger Student Health Insurance in advance, but if you go there for care - you can submit the claim to Bollinger insurance after the visit.  For instance, you would probably pay $65 for a visit to the Take Care Clinic (up Highway 9, to 45 Highway and left one block), then afterward - the clinic staff would provide a claim form which you can submit and get $50 back from Bollinger.  So - the visit would be just $15.00.  You can also check their website to see if your private insurance is accepted.

Flu Shots

We encourage all Park University students (especially residential students) to get the seasonal flu shots that are now available. Please check any of the locations listed above (Parkville Family Practice, The Urgency Room, and Take Care Clinics) to determine which option is best for you. There will be a flu clinic on campus this Friday, September 25, from 11 am to 1 pm in the Millsap Foyer.  The cost is $20 per shot.  If you'd like to get a seasonal flu shot at that time - please send an e-mail to Lori Taylor so she can add your name to her list.  When H1N1 flu shots are available - we encourage students to get those as well.  When we have more information on that - we'll post it on this website.
