Emergency Notification to Students

If you need to get in contact immediately with your son or daughter during the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, you can call the Student Assistance Center at (816)584-6800.  They will get contact information on the Park University student you’re attempting to contact, the reason for the emergency, and your contact information.  Public Safety staff will then pass the message on to your student.  If the emergency arises between 6:00 pm and 8:00 am or on a weekend, please call the Public Safety Department directly at (816) 584-6444.  If you know the Park ID number of your student - that will quicken the process.

Emergency Broadcast Messages on Campus:
Any time there is an emergency on the Parkville Campus, the Office of University Advancement—Communications will authorize an Emergency Broadcast Alert in three ways:

  • On the Park University web site, www.park.edu
  • Via a Pirate Mail (e-mail) “campus alert”
  • Via a text message alert sent to the cell phones of students who have signed up to receive Park University text alerts.

If your son/daughter has not yet signed up to get these text messages, please encourage them to follow the listed procedures at www.park.edu/studentlife/pirateconnect.pdf. Park University does not charge for this service, but please check with your cell phone service provider regarding your plan’s text messaging fees. In addition, please be aware that if your son/daughter does not have a Sprint cell phone, they may not be able to receive messages when they are in the Park Commons (also known as the Mabee Learning Center), the academic underground area of the Parkville Campus. The McAfee Memorial Library, Park University Bookstore, classrooms and academic departments are located in this area.

PirateConnect:
Although the emergency messages are available to any student with a cell phone, we believe it’s important for Park University students to have access to many different features through their cell phone/hand-held device.  Park has worked with two major companies - Sprint and Rave to provide a special phone and plan specifically for Park University students.  This program is called PirateConnect and details are available at: http://www.park.edu/deals/pirateconnect.html.  You can also call the PirateConnect Store at (816)584-6755.  Your Park University student could have a cell phone that they are responsible for – through Park – and the “group” pricing is very competitive.  The PirateConnect system allows your student to utilize the “Guardian” feature to enhance personal safety, special academic options to provide extra options for classroom work, a “community” function to assist them in connecting with other Park University students, and other additional features.
