Well Balanced Food Choices, sponsored by Park University Sodexo Food Campus Services11/2/09-11/6-09 This weeks choices are: 5 Steps to a Healthier You1. Perform a personal health assessment Full Time Park University employees can go to https://www.aetna.com/member/ , Login In, and take the "Simple Steps to a Healthier Life" assessment. Part Time employees, Adjunct Faculty, and students can access a free assessment at https://www.realage.com. 2. Visit your doctor learn baseline measurements "Know your numbers". You can only measure progress by knowing where you started. Have your cholesterol, BMI, blood pressure, and other key figures determined during an annual physical and discuss what type of health program is beneficial for you. 3. Begin your personal wellness prgram Everyone's program should be tailored to the individuals needs and limitation. Some will start with a walking program. Others with a modifcation of their diet. Still others could include all of these aspects with the integration of strength program. Start with small steps along with short and long term goals. 4. Measure your success Compare your baseline measurements to your present results. Celebrate the goals you have achieved. 5. Adapt your program based upon your measurements Whether you made your goals and need to create new ones or you have hit a plateau, modify your program to keep challenge yourself.
Fitness Center Hours of OperationMonday-Friday, 6:00am-9:00pm Saturday-Sunday, 10:00am-6:00pm Click here to read Fitness Center Policies and Rules The Pirate Fitness Center is located in Labor Hall next to the Breckon Sports Center. A Park I.D. is required to use the Pirate Fitness Center or Gym. Lockers and shower facilities are available. Locks and towel service are not provided. Student membership is included with the Parkville Daytime Campus Center Student Life Fee. Students that are not classified as Parkville Daytime Students and do not pay the Student Life fee may sign up for a semester membership. Annual memberships are available for faculty and staff. To access the membership agreement form click HERE. Return your completed agreement to the fitness center front desk. Open Gym - 7 days a week, Time varies. The half court is available to students and members for open play. Users may bring their own basketball or use one provided by the facility in exchange for their ID cards. Organized play will be limited to 20 minutes if there is a wait. Footwear with non-marking soles only please. To view the gym schedule follow the link below.
StaffCommunity Wellness Coordinator/Strength and Conditioning, Brian Ciolek Brian has been in the fitness industry for over four years and recently comes from Life Time Fitness as a master level personal trainer and metabolic technician. He has his MS in Exercise Science with an emphasis in performance enhancement and injury prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. He also attended the University of Central Missouri where he graduated with a BS in Exercise Science with an emphasis in athletic training and 1200 hours of experience with the university’s sport teams. Brian is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In addition, he has the certifications of Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Brian has coaching certifications by US Soccer D License, NSCAA, USA Weightlifting, and USA Track and Field. He has been published in Tennis Talk and Fitness Magazine and enjoys the sports of soccer, mountain biking, kayaking, and adventure racing. Contact Brian at bciolek@park.edu or 816-584-6463.
