Adventures in Television

Steven Youngblood is an assistant professor of Communication Arts, and is general manager of KGSP-FM and Park’s cable TV news program. A long time journalist and journalism educator, Youngblood is a two-time J. William Fulbright Scholar, and has taught broadcast and print journalism to students and professionals in such diverse places at Moldova, Romania, Russia, Guyana, Azerbaijan, Brazil, and the Republic of Georgia.

Conflict Resolution & Peer Mediation

Ronnie Beach brings a background in business, education, public service and non-profits to his mediation work. His educational background includes two advanced degrees in psychology: Specialist Degree: Ed. S. School Psychology and Master of Science: Psychology - Community Mental Health, both from Pittsburg State University. After graduation, he worked seven years as a school psychologist for the Southeast Kansas Special Education Cooperative helping to serve special needs children in a three-county area. For 17 years, he was General Manager of K.W. Brock Directories as they experienced significant growth and were recognized nationally as a Gold Book Publisher. He served 20 years in elected office in such roles as mayor, city council member, and school board member in Pittsburg, Kansas. He is a mediator in Missouri and Kansas with emphasis in elder care, family, neighborhood and civil disputes with more than 500 hours of dispute resolution training. He is the Coordinator of the Johnson County Small Claims Mediation program. He is a volunteer for the victim offender program for Catholic Charities and the Community Mediation Center where he received his transformative mediation training. He is the President of Heartland Mediators Association (HMA) and a member of the Association of Missouri Mediators (AMM), Victim Offender Mediation Association (VOMA), Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM). Ronnie and his wife, Trisha has two grown daughters.

Where in the World?

Dr. Olga Ganzen is a faculty member and the Executive Director of the Office of International Affairs and Education at Park University.  Her accomplishments as an executive director include establishment of contacts and partnerships with several foreign universities, design of short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs, the creation and coordination of many community outreach programs at Park University, and cooperation with faculty on the internationalization of curriculum.

Kimberly Connelly currently serves as the Assistant Director of  International Student Services at Park University.  In this capacity she facilitates and oversees international student admission and enrollment, assists current students with various questions and concerns relative to maintaining status and intercultural relation issues, and works with other university departments and offices regarding international student issues, problems and needs.  Her accomplishments include dramatically increasing international student enrollment at Park University and developing programs such as the faculty and staff mentoring program for international students as well as faculty and staff intercultural training.

Chinese Language and Culture

Wen Hsin, Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor of Information and Computer Science at Park University. She obtained her Ph.D. from UMKC with an interdisciplinary study in Computer Science and Telecommunications. Prior to her Ph.D. study, she was a software engineer at IBM, NY for a number of years. Currently, her teaching and research interest is in the areas of Computer Science Education, Computer Networking, and Network Security. She was born and educated in Taiwan before coming to USA for her graduate study. Over the past seven years, she has been a volunteer Chinese teacher at various schools of different levels, including pre-school, elementary school, middle school, and college. In her teaching, she likes to combine Chinese language with various Chinese culture components, including calligraphy, painting, paper folding, macramé, yo-yo, cooking, etc. She particularly enjoys making craft animals out of Chinese macramé strings.

Crime Scene Investigations

Doug Scheffner, MPA retired from the Gladstone Public Safety Department in January, 2007. In his 32 years with that department, he served as a patrol officer, fire fighter, detective, police sergeant, paramedic, police captain and fire division chief. As a police captain, he commanded patrol/investigations operations and organized and led the Special Weapons and Tactics team. He attended advanced training in death investigation, crime scene operations, gangs and drug investigations. He was a 1993 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy and attended the U. S. Fire Administration's National Fire Academy. At the FBI Academy, he studied courses on terrorism and forensic evidence. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Park University and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He has been an adjunct faculty member of Park University since 1985.

It IS Easy Being Green!

Dr. Donna K. Howell received her B.S. in Chemistry from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in Organometallic Chemistry. Dr. Howell is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Natural and Physical Sciences at Park University.  She previously taught general and organic chemistry at Xavier University of Louisiana and Non-Science majors and general chemistry at Angelo State University. Her research interests involve DMSO reductase enzyme mimics as well as hydrodesulfurization catalysts and applications to the environmental concern of global warming.

ART!

Lynn Richardson is an adjunct professor for the Art Department at Park University and also Metropolitan Community Colleges. She has been an adjunct professor for 10 years. Richardson received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from UMKC while achieving her certification to teach Art K-12. She received her Masters of Liberal Arts from Baker University.

Future Enterprisers

William Venable III is an assistant professor in the School for Business and Management at Park University. His undergraduate courses are in marketing, and teaches business policy to students in the MBA Program.  Prior to joining Park, he spent more than 20 years in marketing and finance, in positions with divisions of Merrill Lynch, Dean Witter Discover & Co., 20th Century-Fox Film Corporation, AMC Entertainment, Western Resources, Rockhurst University, Hallmark Cards, UMB Bank, and Sprint.  He also served as an adjunct instructor in the marketing departments at Rockhurst University and Avila University. Throughout his career he have remained very active in the small business community, serving on the boards of several startups and workouts.  He retains his professional ties with involvement in my own marketing research firm, and my own commercial property development company. Not only involved in the Kansas City community; Venable is also concerned with international trade and have participated in three economic missions to Mexico since 1996.  In that capacity he served as a consultant, helping Mexican firms identify target markets in the United States.
