The Smell of The Kill Park University Theatre Degree ProgramsPark offers students a nurturing learning environment and small class sizes that encourage personal attention and interaction. There are numerous opportunities to gain theatrical experience via performance or technical production. The Kansas City metropolitan area also offers cultural opportunities to experience musicals, plays, concerts, art, and experimental theatre. Park's partnership with the Unicorn Theatre enables students to further develop the skills they have learned in classes such as the history of theatre, acting methods, role playing, improvisation, etc. Students interested in working "behind the scenes" can learn about lighting, sound, costumes, props, stage management, directing, and more. The theatre experience at Park extends beyond booklearning--it's a confidence builder, an outlet for personal expression and an opportunity to meet other students and get involved in campus activities. Who Should Major In TheatreThe ideal major is someone who is expressive, artistic, and who likes to perform and enjoys being involved in a group project. The minor is often of interest to business students who want to learn how to be more demonstrative or polish their presentation skills. High school student interested in a theatre degree program at Park are encouraged to become involved in theatrical productions, sing in choirs, and do well in English, music, speech, and literature classes. Degree ProgramsPark University's theatre degree programs* are designed to serve the artistic needs of students and the area community. Various courses provide students with opportunities for both academic exploration and experimental training to enhance students' career interests in theatre and in other areas of study. Park offers these theatre degree programs:
*Accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Grants And Financial Aid OpportunitiesTheatre grants are awarded in the spring each year for the following year. Incoming performance majors or minors are required to prepare a memorized monologue. Incoming technical design majors are required to present a portfolio of previous technical experience. All interested persons are required to present a resume of their previous theatre experiences. The deadline for consideration is the end of February. Work-study employment is available for theatre majors or minors who meet University requirements. In addition to two main stage presentations during the school year, production opportunities include student-mounted experimental theatre projects. Theatre auditions are open to all students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
