Young joined Park University in 2005, and has extensive professional credits in many of Kansas City theatres. Besides teaching Technical Theatre Production, Introduction to Theatre and theatre design courses, Young also serves as the technical director, scenic and lighting designer for the main stage departmental productions. His recent professional designs include; The Great American Trailer Park Musical at Unicorn Theatre, After Juliet and The Night Before Christmas at the Coterie Theatre, Dangerous Dirty Little Liaisons, The Woman, Santaland Diaries, and many more at Late Night Theatre, and other production companies in the area. He has also worked as a scenic artist for the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Heart of America Shakespeare Festival and various commercial installation projects.

Mark has been an Equity Actor for the past 28 years, with more that 125 professional roles to his credit, performing in Chicago, Boston, Phoenix, Tucson, St. Louis and Kansas City. He has performed leading roles as Macbeth, Oedipus, and Richard III, and has worked as a leading actor for every major professional theatre in Kansas City. He is a director of note in Kansas City, having directed for the Unicorn Theatre (where he received a Best of Kansas City award for Best Director), the American Heartland Theatre, UMKC's Graduate Training Program, and the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival.
