Park Distance Learning oversees all extended face-to-face campus centers and online education forums.
The purpose of Park’s Online Operations Department is to provide virtual and geographical post-secondary educational services and support to students, faculty, and staff assisting students to graduate and achieve their academic goals. Offering online courses in place of, or in addition to, the traditional classroom experience enables students the flexibility to pursue their education while balancing the demands of work and family life.

Park University confirms that students have engaged in an academically-related activity in the first two weeks of the term/semester for each course in which they are enrolled. Academically-related activities include, but are not limited to:
- physically attending a class where there is an opportunity for direct interaction between the instructor and students;
- submitting an academic assignment;
- taking an exam, an interactive tutorial or computer assisted instruction;
- attending a study group that is assigned by the school;
- participating in an online discussion about academic matters;
- initiating contact with a faculty member to ask a question about the academic subject studied in the course.
Academically-related activities do not include logging into an online class without active participation, or participating in academic counseling or advisement.
Academic honesty is the prerequisite for academic study. Academic dishonesty is inimical to the spirit of a learning community. Hence, Park will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism on tests, examinations, papers, and other course assignments. Students who engage in such dishonesty may be given failing grades or ultimately be expelled from Park.
Plagiarism, the appropriation or imitation of the language or ideas of another person and presenting them as one’s original work, sometimes occurs through carelessness or ignorance. This does not make it less serious. However, students who are uncertain about proper documentation of sources should consult their course faculty member.
Faculty members are expected to dismiss students from their classroom, whose behavior is detrimental to good order in the classroom. Such behavior includes, but is not limited to:
- using abusive or obscene language
- attending the class under influence of drugs or alcohol
Students who are dismissed from class may be given failing grades, suspension, or expulsion from the university. Students whose behavior, either verbal or written, is detrimental to the good order of the University may be subject to disciplinary action ranging from suspension to expulsion from the University this includes detrimental behavior toward administrative personnel or support staff.
Only extraordinary circumstances warrant a student’s being allowed to make up a missed final examination. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the faculty member before the scheduled exam or by the end of the first working day after the day of the missed exam to request permission to take a makeup exam. In the process of determining whether a makeup exam should be allowed, the burden of proof is on the student. The faculty member has the right to request verification of any excuse offered by the student.
A student who is denied permission to take a makeup exam may appeal immediately to the Academic Director or Resident Center Administrator. The appeal must be made in writing by the end of the first working day after the day of the denial. The appeal will be forwarded immediately to the appropriate Vice President whose decision will be final.
Turnitin is plagiarism-detection and prevention software service created by iParadigms, LLC. Papers written by students are submitted to Turnitin, which checks the documents for unoriginal content. The results can be used to identify similarities to existing sources or can be used in formative assessment to help students learn how to avoid plagiarism and improve their writing.
FACULTY AND STUDENT USE OF TURNITIN
Turnitin has the potential to be an important resource for promoting information literacy, as well as encouraging academic integrity. Park University instructors (faculty, adjunct faculty, and other instructors) have the option to create Turnitin assignments within the Canvas LMS for graded or non-graded written assignments in his or her classes.
PROTECTING STUDENT PRIVACY

Students are notified that a paper will be reviewed by Turnitin prior to submitting the paper through the Canvas LMS.
When an instructor intends to use Turnitin to review students’ work, a “best practice” to promote academic integrity is to notify students about the use of Turnitin in a statement included in the course syllabus and/or course announcement. Instructors are encouraged to remind students of the potential review work based on a Turnitin report or other technology when they discuss course assignments.

At my discretion, I may use the Turnitin service to evaluate the originality of student papers. I may employ other services and techniques to evaluate your work for evidence of appropriate authorship practices as needed.”

“Students are required to agree that all submitted papers may be subject to submission for textual similarity review to Turnitin.com for the detection of plagiarism. All submitted papers will be included as source documents in the Turnitin.com reference database solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism of such papers. Use of the Turnitin.com service is subject to the Usage Policy posted on the Turnitin.com site. Students retain the copyright of papers submitted to the Turnitin service. The Turnitin user agreement entitles iParadigms to use the works as part of the plagiarism prevention system under the principles of fair use.”

Choosing to activate Turnitin on an assignment in the Canvas LMS is a faculty option. Policies regarding Park’s usage of Turnitin for faculty and students are provided on this webpage.

Park University partners with ProctorU, a private online service, for some online and non-traditional courses that are not able to be proctored by Park representatives. Only final exams will be proctored.

Interruptions in the internet connection or entry of other persons into the room will be reported by ProctorU and investigated to ensure the academic integrity of the exam.
If you require testing accommodations because of a qualifying disability:
- You must request disability accommodations with Park University’s Office of Disability Services
- Your request and documentation must be submitted no later than the third week of the term.
- If approved for accommodations, you must communicate with both Disability Services and your instructor, so that your accommodations may be arranged for your proctored final.
- ProctorU is fully prepared to make adjustments and provide assistance after you’ve established your accommodations.
