Roger Kugler, D.M.A., is the director of Park University’s acclaimed International Center for Music. Kugler has 33 years of teaching and administrative experience in higher education, including fundraising and building community relationships. Prior to joining Park University, Kugler spent eight years at Ottawa (Kan.) University, serving as chair of the Department of Music, director of music programs and associate professor of music, as well as conducting the University Band and Athletic Band. He also served one year as dean of enrollment.
He has also served as program manager for the Osher Foundation within the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Kansas; and various faculty positions at Central Methodist University (Fayette, Mo.), Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro), Baker University (Baldwin City, Kan.) and Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond). In addition, he was president of Kugler Consulting Inc., a company that specialized in assisting colleges and universities acquire outcome learning data for Higher Learning Commission and North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation visits. Prior to starting his career in higher education, Kugler taught music in three Kansas public school districts.
As a professional trumpeter, Kugler has performed with symphony orchestras in Richmond, Eugene and Portland, Ore., and Wichita, Kan. He has also toured with The Temptations and Wayne Newton.
Kugler earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oregon, emphasizing trumpet performance and brass pedagogy. He received both a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wichita State University. Kugler and his wife, Kathryn, have five children and nine grandchildren.
