Park University’s School of Education and the Dorothy Harper Watson Literacy Center have partnered with Barnes & Noble at Zona Rosa Town Center for a book fair to support the North Kansas City (Mo.) School District on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will help fund the University’s River Read Children’s Literature Festival, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14, on the Parkville Campus, which will provide hundreds of fourth and fifth grade students from the NKCSD the opportunity to meet local authors, explore literature and learn about the writing craft.
Shoppers interested in supporting the event simply have to mention the North Kansas City School District or the River Reach Children’s Literature Festival and a portion of the sale — made in the bookstore or café — will benefit the event. In addition to in-store purchases, Barnes & Noble online shoppers can enter Park’s book fair ID number (11404449) upon checkout to benefit the Festival.
“For many of the students who attend River Read, this will be their first time on a college campus,” said Shannon Cuff, Ph.D., assistant professor of education and area coordinator for education, language and literacy in Park’s Master of Education in Language and Literacy program. “Park welcomes the opportunity to share its beautiful Parkville Campus with young learners and encourage the love of literacy through inspirational and motivational presentations.”
Park University and DHWLC will also be recipients of Zona Rosa’s Change for Charity funds during the month of October. All of the change collected from parking meters during the month will help support the Festival.
