Stephen W. Terry has been appointed senior director of operations, administration and compliance within the Office of Finance and Administration at Park University. Terry, who previously served the University as assistant dean of military and veteran programs
, started in his new role on Oct. 1.
In Terry’s new position, he will work closely with the University’s student accounts team, as well as provide guidance on enterprise strategic and financial policy, frameworks, parameters, risks and direction, and assist with the development and implementation of strategy, goals, solutions and outcomes within the OFA. In addition, he is responsible for the oversight of the University’s endowment accounts and the development of scholarship controls for the endowment’s funds. Terry will provide support to the Office of General Counsel
, coordinating the University’s compliance as it relates to state licensing and activities.
Terry also currently serves as Park’s ROTC
academic program coordinator, a position he has held since 2012, and he is an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses in military science and education. He began his career at Park in 2010 as director of military and veteran student services
, and assisted the University to open its Park Warrior Center
. Terry served in that role until 2014 when he was promoted to assistant dean of military and veteran programs
. In 2013, Terry was honored with the Park Family Award, which recognizes a Park staff or faculty member who embodies the University’s “family-like” culture in his/her interaction with students and colleagues.
Prior to joining Park University, Terry worked at the University of Missouri-Kansas City as senior coordinator in the Institute for Leadership and Service and as Greek life and first-year experience coordinator. He was also an adjunct instructor within UMKC’s College of Arts and Sciences. Terry also served as an adjudication officer in the Office of Residence Life and Judicial Affairs at Pennsylvania State University and as a TRIO program student advisor in Office of Student Support Services at Northwest Missouri State University.
Terry, a prior service U.S. Army civil affairs staff sergeant, was recently appointed second lieutenant in the Missouri Army National Guard following the completion of an 18-month Officer Candidate School training program. He is assigned to Detachment 1, 1231st Transportation Company, Columbia, Mo., serving as the transportation and logistics operations officer. Terry has been awarded the Missouri National Guard Volunteer Service Medal for outstanding contributions to his community, and he is a recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and NATO Medal.
In December, Terry will graduate with a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Kansas. He earned a Master of Education in higher education administration from Penn State University and a Bachelor of Science in communications from Northwest Missouri State University. He resides in Olathe, Kan., with his wife, Carrie, and their three daughters.
