Peace Studies Minor at Park University

The Peace Studies program is an interdisciplinary minor of 21 credits. It encompasses the study of war and the conditions for peace. The Mission Statement for the minor is:

Students will be able to think critically and act effectively regarding peace and conflict in their personal lives and in local and global contexts.

Four academic departments are especially related to Peace Studies. Making peace between individuals requires a knowledge of psychology. Making peace among groups requires knowledge of sociology. Making peace among nations requires a knowledge of political science. Values, ethical considerations and profound contexts involve a knowledge of philosophy and religion.

Required Courses

The 21 hours of credit must include at least 12 hours of core courses in Peace Studies. The whole minor can be completed from the seven core courses. Up to 9 hours of electives from other disciplines are also possible.
