Why Study Interior Design?

An interior design degree offers the opportunity to improve how people live, work, and interact within spaces. Professional interior designers play a vital role in creating environments that enhance quality of life by supporting health, safety, and well-being. At Park University, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design combines fine arts education with practical training in drafting, space planning, material selection, and sustainable design. This well-rounded curriculum prepares students to meet industry demands while making a meaningful impact on the built environment.

What You’ll Learn

  • The interior design degree begins by building a strong base in visual arts through courses in drawing, color theory, 2D and 3D design, and art appreciation. These foundational skills help develop your artistic sensitivity and creative problem-solving abilities essential for interior design work.
  • You’ll learn essential drafting techniques and gain proficiency in design software like AutoCAD and Revit for creating both 2D and 3D architectural drawings. An interior design education prepares you to produce professional-level construction documents and digital renderings.
  • As an interior design major, you’ll learn about residential and commercial space planning, exploring how to apply the design process to meet client needs while addressing accessibility, safety codes, and cultural influences. You’ll also study lighting, furniture, and material selection to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces.
  • The bachelor’s in interior design explores the history of interiors, architecture, and furniture from antiquity to the present, analyzing how social, political, and cultural movements influence design. This knowledge helps you place your work within a broader context and draw inspiration from past styles and trends.
  • You will study business practices, legal considerations, and portfolio development to prepare for a career in interior design. In your final year of the interior design university degree program, you will complete a capstone project and thesis, presenting your design work in a juried exhibition that showcases your professional readiness.
