Why Study Fine Art?

A fine arts degree provides students with a transformative education with a strong foundation in both studio practice and art history, developing their technical skills, fostering creative expression, and cultivating durable skills in concert with the liberal arts curriculum. With concentrations available in areas such as drawing, painting, ceramics, fibers, and photography, students can tailor their creative arts education to match their specific artistic interests. The Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art transformative approach is defined by blending hands-on studio work with a liberal arts education, preparing graduates for careers in the arts, museums, galleries, or other creative industries. Whether pursuing art professionally or for personal enrichment, students gain a holistic, individualized education rooted in the visual arts.

What You’ll Learn

  • You will build a strong foundation in drawing by learning core concepts like shape, proportion, and form defined by light. Through hands-on practice, you’ll develop the skills needed to represent and describe subjects visually, which is essential for more advanced studio work.
  • The fine arts degree emphasizes both two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, helping you understand visual composition in depth. The fine arts degree online program equips you to solve creative problems using elements like color, texture, and form, while learning the safe and effective use of art tools and materials.
  • Through the study of global art history, you’ll gain insight into how different cultures and time periods shape visual expression. From prehistoric to contemporary times, you’ll explore art within its historical and cultural contexts, enhanced by gallery tours and lectures that show you how art contributes to our world.
  • Students have the opportunity to explore specialized areas such as painting, photography, figure drawing, or digital design. Advanced studio courses, independent studies, and internships allow you to tailor your experience and refine your skills in a chosen medium as you prepare for your personal purpose.
  • You will be able to customize your fine arts degree by choosing from subjects like ceramics, sculpture, and fibers, each offering hands-on experience with unique materials and techniques. This flexibility enables you to develop specialized skills in your chosen focus area while building your professional portfolio.
