Why Study Interdisciplinary Studies?

An interdisciplinary studies degree offers a flexible and efficient path to graduation, especially for students who have transferred multiple times or accumulated several minors without completing a major. An interdisciplinary degree develops students’ ability to synthesize diverse perspectives and apply interdisciplinary thinking in both academic and professional settings. It’s particularly valuable for working professionals who have reached career advancement limits due to their lack of a degree. The Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies provides a pathway to both professional growth and graduate education, including MBA programs.

What You’ll Learn

  • With an interdisciplinary studies degree, you will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the foundational content, concepts, and perspectives within a chosen academic discipline, while also recognizing how these elements connect with and inform the key issues, questions, and viewpoints of at least one additional field of study.
  • An interdisciplinary degree prepares you to critically evaluate and compare differing scholarly perspectives, theories, and materials across multiple disciplines to formulate a well-supported, original thesis or position that reflects interdisciplinary insight.
  • An interdisciplinary studies bachelor’s degree equips you to integrate and synthesize a range of perspectives, drawn from both academic coursework and real-world professional experiences, to develop a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of complex issues or problems.
  • You’ll be able to analyze and assess the methodological approaches and theoretical frameworks used by at least two academic disciplines, applying this knowledge to evaluate or address contemporary, real-world challenges effectively.
  • Upon graduating with your interdisciplinary studies degree, you will be ready to leverage the skills, knowledge, and interdisciplinary insights gained through academic studies and professional experiences to secure meaningful employment or to pursue advanced studies at the graduate level.
