The degree in Middle School Education prepares future teachers to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students in grades 5 through 9. Park University’s middle school teacher preparation program combines content area expertise, effective teaching strategies, and real classroom experience to ensure middle school teacher candidates are ready for the demands of the profession. The comprehensive curriculum supports success on Missouri state certification exams and builds the confidence needed to lead a classroom. The degree in education for middle school students explores issues of equity and justice in education—such as gender, race, class, religion, and language—while emphasizing culturally responsive teaching and the impact of diversity in K–12 classrooms. You will examine principles of second language acquisition and dialect variation and develop strategies for planning, implementing, and assessing effective instruction for English language learners and culturally diverse students.

Bachelor’s degrees require 120 credit hours, including coursework tailored to your major and core academic skills. To graduate, you’ll need to maintain a 2.0 GPA in your major and complete at least 30 credit hours at Park to meet the residency requirements, 15 of which must be earned in the major core. To become a middle school teacher, you’ll typically need a bachelor’s degree in education with a focus on grades 5–9. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Education in Middle School Education at Park University can specialize in one of four areas: Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Science.
