Dear residents Copley Quad and Chesnut Hall

We are following up regarding the university decision to move all coursework to the online format for the rest of spring.

Students are encouraged to stay at home to increase social distancing. However, the residence halls will remain open for students who have limited housing and food options, students who have essential employment on or off campus, and students with other extenuating circumstances.

REQUIRED SURVEY FOR ALL RESIDENTS

In order to properly plan for residence life and dining operations, students who will need to either return to campus to pick up belongings and return home or who need to stay on campus during the duration of the semester, must complete the survey below. It is preferred for you to complete it at least 12 hours before returning to campus. Students who may already be on campus during spring break should also complete the survey as soon as possible to indicate if they plan to remain on campus or go home.

Intent to Return Survey for All Residents

CHECK OUT PROCESS

For those moving out of the residence halls, they must check out with a Residence Life staff member. Similar to other check out periods, residents are responsible for cleaning their space. Once all items have been removed from your room, you may call the Staff on Duty (816-839-2651) to process your check out with a staff member. Check out records will be processed with any damages and charges, any remainder previously made payments to housing will be processed back as a credit to student accounts at a weekly prorated rate and may take 3-6 weeks to process.

ADJUSTED DINING HOURS

For the rest of the semester, we will have adjusted hours in dining:

Thompson Café will be open for Brunch from 11:00 am-1:00pm and Dinner from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm. We are taking measures to eliminate self-service areas.

Savor and Copley Late Night Market will remain closed.

Jolly Roger will be open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 10:30 am with increased options for breakfast meal swipe options.

Additionally, students will be expected to practice social distancing, which has been shown to slow a disease outbreak. This means we reduce the number of times and places people gather in large numbers or spend extensive time together. These social distancing steps are admittedly inconvenient but are necessary for the greater good.

ADJUSTED COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS

Suspension of the residence hall overnight guest policy (meaning no overnight guests will be permitted).

Students should limit interaction in public spaces such as bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Maintain a distance of 6 feet from others.

Students will continue to be expected to frequently take out their trash to provided trash chute or dumpsters area.

Failure to follow the student code of conduct and/or Residence Life rules and regulations may result in disciplinary measures, up to and including removal from on-campus housing.

CDC INFORMATION

The University continues to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and work with local public health officials. As a reminder, the CDC recommends the following everyday actions to prevent the spread of any respiratory viruses:

  • Avoid sharing drinks, eating utensils and other practices that could transfer saliva.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when sick and encourage others to do the same.
  • Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Follow CDC recommendationsif symptoms of COVID-19 develop.

Visit the CDC Prevention and Treatment page to learn more.
