Park University Alumnus to Present Discussion on 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 at Union Station Kansas City

July 11, 2019 — Lynn Bondurant, Ph.D., a retired NASA educational programs officer and a 1961 graduate of Park University, will present a discussion on “The Legacy of Apollo 11: 50 Years and Still Counting” on Saturday, July 20 — 50 years to the day the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle landed on the moon (six hours prior to Astronaut Neil Armstrong first stepping foot on the moon on July 21, 1969, at 2:56 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time; Astronaut Buzz Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later).

The event will be held at Union Station’s Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre starting at 8:30 a.m. Admission to the discussion, which includes the opportunity to see Apollo artifacts and view the 25-minute film “Capcom Go! – The Apollo Story” in the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium, is $5 for all ages. Bondurant was a 2016 inductee into NASA’s Glenn Research Center Hall of Fame which recognizes individuals who had a far-reaching influence on the direction and mission of the Center, made fundamental advancements in their field or served as an inspiration to employees though their character and embodiment of the NASA spirit.

A longtime STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) advocate and inspiring educator, Bondurant has authored numerous articles and books on STEM education topics, presented more than 70 NASA television programs and brought a clear vision of a successful STEM outreach program to the Center. A past member of Park’s Board of Trustees, Bondurant was a 1991 recipient of the Park University Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus Award which recognizes Park alumni who have distinguished themselves through career, service or community achievements. In addition, Bondurant received an honorary doctorate degree in science education in 1993 from the University. Bondurant earned a doctorate in curriculum and secondary education from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts degree in zoology from Indiana University.
