Your Get On Board Checklist

Student Success

At Park University, we believe your success is a collaborative effort. By understanding your goals and providing you with resources and knowledge to effectively develop them, we empower you to make decisions that will enhance your educational experience and ultimately help you reach your educational and career objectives. You are the most important factor in this journey.

Scheduling Appointments

To schedule an advising appointment, simply email your Success Coach directly or email parkvillesuccess@park.edu. You will be provided with a unique link to your Success Coach’s scheduling calendar – it’s that easy! You can also call your success coach directly or reach any of the success coaches at 816-746-2526.

Hours of Operation: 8am-6pm M-Th; 8am-4:30pm Fri.

Helpful hints

  • If your appointment is for something other than registration for classes, just let your advisor know what you’d like to discuss.
  • Know which classes you’d like to take? Simply email your Success Coach or parkvillesuccess@park.edu with the course codes and sections, and we can get you enrolled. You can also enroll over the phone. We want to make registering convenient for you.

Learning Objectives

As a result of Student Success coaching and planning, you will be able to:

  • Create a personal path to degree completion
  • Utilize campus resources
  • Navigate relevant policies and procedures
  • Recognize the importance of balancing competing priorities
  • Demonstrate decision-making skills by gathering information, assessing alternatives, and examining/understanding consequences

Advisor Responsibilities

  • Creates an environment where mutual respect and trust allows you to define and develop realistic goals
  • Assists you in gaining decision-making skills and in assuming responsibility for your educational plans and achievements
  • Assists you in understanding your MyPark portal, degree audit, and Course and Fees Statement
  • Refers you to other resources on campus, such as Student Financial Services, Academic Support, Faculty Advisors, etc.
  • Understands and effectively communicate Liberal Arts Core Curriculum, B.A. or B.S. degree requirements as well as academic policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality in full support of FERPA
  • Helps make you aware of important dates and deadlines, such as term starts, add/drop dates, payment deadlines, etc.
  • Is accessible to you by phone, email, and in person when possible and during office hours

Advisee Responsibilities

  • Schedules regular appointments or check-ins with your Success Coach each term
  • Is prepared for your appointments: come with a goal for each meeting and prepare questions
  • Views and utilizes your Park email for official correspondence on a regular basis
  • Keeps records; organizes and saves documents you may need to reference later in your educational journey
  • Accepts responsibility for your actions and decisions
  • Is open and willing to consider recommendations from faculty, success coaches, and other mentors
  • Keeps track of your academic progress, both overall and in each course
  • Reviews your degree requirements each term and track your progress toward completion of graduation requirements
  • Communicates: If you’re struggling or just have questions, talk to us. We can’t help you if we don’t know you’re struggling.
